Frequently asked questions about hiring
a professional organizer
Although we are all individuals with organizing issues that appear unique to us, I’ve listed some common questions about hiring a professional organizer.
- I'm afraid my "problem area" is worse than you’ve ever seen. – OR - I am embarrassed about my messy house. Should I clean up some of the clutter before you arrive?
Answer: I probably have seen worse and there is no reason to be embarrassed about your cluttered home. If my organizing services weren’t needed, you wouldn’t have sought me out. It’s best to have the professional organizer you are going to hire see the space as is. I will be able to evaluate your organizing project better.
- My family won’t visit or I’m not able to invite friends or even repair people in because I’m so uncomfortable with my cluttered house.
Answer: I’m concerned that your family won’t come to your home and that you won’t have others in. You could be a person with a “hoarding” issue and unless you allow help in, this situation could escalate to one of health and safety. I urge you to open yourself to accepting assistance.
- I don’t want my neighbors to know I’ve enlisted your organizing services. Do you arrive with signage on your vehicle? What is your privacy policy?
Answer: I do not use signage on my vehicle if the client requests. Any information regarding my organizing work, our discussions and even client names are kept completely confidential.
- Do your professional organizers do the actual work of de-cluttering or am I involved?
Answer: I work in a variety of ways depending on your wishes. A popular method is the team approach, whereby the client works alongside me, determining resolution of items at the time. Another approach is that I work alone and leave items in question for the client to make decisions on before my next organizing visit.
Feel free to email me if you have any other questions about hiring a professional organizer or hiring an event planner.
Organizing Tip #4:
Donate & Recycle. Donate clothes and appliances that you haven't touched in years to your local Salvation Army or church. Recycle any paper, plastic, or metal scrap your town will except. And make sure NOT to throw out any hazardous materials.
